xThe Drive Medical Oxymizer Mustache is an oxygen-conserving device that sits on your upper lip — the reservoir captures oxygen between breaths and delivers a stored bolus on inhale, giving you the same therapeutic oxygen with a 4:1 savings ratio compared to standard cannulas.
Mustache vs. Pendant style
Drive Medical makes the Oxymizer in two form factors:
- Mustache (this product): reservoir sits on the upper lip — visible, but compact and doesn't hang on the chest
- Pendant: reservoir hangs on the chest and can be worn under clothing — discreet, but bulkier
Both deliver the same 4:1 savings ratio. Choose by preference. If you'd prefer the pendant style, look for "Drive Medical Oxymizer Pendants."
How is this different from a standard cannula?
A standard cannula delivers oxygen continuously — including during exhalation, when most of it is wasted. The Oxymizer's reservoir captures that oxygen and delivers it as a stored bolus at the start of each inhale, so a higher proportion reaches your lungs.
Practical impact: portable oxygen lasts longer; a patient with a high prescribed flow rate may receive equivalent therapy at a lower flow setting.
Consult your physician before switching
An Oxymizer delivers oxygen differently from a standard cannula. Do not change your concentrator's flow setting on your own. If your prescription is written for a standard cannula and you want to switch to an Oxymizer, talk with your prescribing physician about whether the flow rate should be adjusted.
